Best Time to Visit Chile
Useful information on the best time to visit Chile; where to go and when...
The incredible setting of Chile sets it apart from any other destination in the world, stretching for 4,300km down the west side of South America from the driest of deserts to the iciest of glaciers. With volcanoes, spectacular beaches,
lakes, rivers and geysers in-between, the hardest part is trying to incorporate it all! Whether you want to explore the isolated desert in San Pedro de Atacama, stroll through the city of Santiago, explore the stunning Torres del Paine or ski the immaculate Chilean slopes, you will need to understand the climate before hand…
Climate: The long thin country ranges from dry desert in the north through temperate southern hemisphere seasons down to the extremes of Tierra del Fuego in the south. As is the case in Argentina, the summer months are in reverse of ours in the northern hemisphere, so Santiago, the Lake District and Patagonia are sunniest and brightest from November to February. The Atacama Desert is hot and dry year-round so will fit in with any plans, but it is often Torres del Paine National Park that will dictate your time of visit, as several lodges close during the winter months. If you’re lucky, however, there is little more spectacular site than the park covered in deep snow, criss-crossed with animal tracks. The ski season in Valle Nevado and Portillo runs from approximately June to October.
